Distractions
Distractions
Some people are born with ADHD or other learning disabilities but I am not one of those people. I just get distracted really easily, too easily I would say. Whatever I am doing at the moment, if I hear the softest noise I will put my attention towards it. It’s bad I know but there’s nothing I could do. I wish I had ADHD because then there would actually be a reason to my weird habits.
In school it’s the worst. I have my friends in all my classes so it is always hard to stay focused in class. If it is not my friends that are distracting me, it is definitely outside noises, music, other people’s music, other students whispering, etc. but I get distracted by everything no matter what it is. It may not even be physical distractions. Some of my distractions are mental. I sit in class too long not doing anything so I start to daze off or think about other topics.
Distractions are a real pain when I think about it. It restrains me from performing my best in school and results in me not giving a 100% in anything I do. If I am at home in my room trying to study, it would take me at least an hour to even start studying. On top of that, I would probably be listening to music as well so I would be even more distracting. But I know what you are all thinking. Why don’t I just put my phone away and not listen to music but that is not as easy as it sounds. I feel like I physically would not be able to sit still in the silence trying to study.
Sometimes I think this is somewhat of a positive thing. Although I tend to daze off, I also tend to think ahead. Thinking ahead can be somewhat of a benefit because it helps me stay organized and on top of everything instead of winging everything. I also tend to overthink situations which helps me make sure I am making the right decision. Over thinking and thinking ahead may have some negative consequences but at the same time it prevents me from procrastinating.
See now I made it sound confusing. I said my tendencies to overthink and think ahead prevents me from procrastinating but earlier I also said I have trouble staying focused. I like to stay on top of things and do things on time but it just takes me a while to do them. Like if I tell myself I am working on my English research paper on Monday, I am definitely going to work on my project Monday. But if I told myself that I will work on my essay on Monday for 4 hours I would most likely work on in Monday for 6 hours.
I cannot go a day without being distracted. Wherever I am and whatever I am doing, I will always find something to distract me. But I am not complaining, I have dealt with it for the past 16 years of my life so I can deal with it for the rest of my life. Not every bad habit is a disadvantage!
