Why are highly expensive headphones selling more than cheaper ones
Headphone advertising has increased rapidly over the course of the past few years, but not for the reasons that you would expect. Specifically aimed towards the top sellers, why are these companies the top sellers for their headphones? Are they professional/Studio headphones? Are they top notch quality sounding headphones?
Well, very simply, the answer is no.
For quite a while now, headphones have been selling at great numbers because of celebrity endorsements and attractive designs. Whats very strange is that there are headphones FAR cheaper than these popular ones, with significantly better sound.
Right now, the top selling headphones would be Beats by Dr. Dre, Soul by Ludicrous, as well as SYNC by 50 cent. As you can see, the names of these headphones already tell you that they are inspired by very well known and liked people.
. A very popular pair of headphones, especially for its design, is the beats by dr. dre STUDIO edition, as mentioned before, and is showed below.
Although these headphones seem to be very professional, what's wrong with them is that they don't live up to their name. For example, as shown above, the beats by Dre Studio edition cannot actually be used in a studio. Studio headphones require a few things. Sound being evened/leveled out and nothing specifically being overpowered, sound quality, how loud they can go without effecting the sound quality, and probably most importantly, the leakage. The beats studio edition has excellent sound quality, but the bass is overpowering. When it gets a little too loud, the sound's quality starts to distort. And the biggest problem of all, the leakage, is terrible. Ironically, the beats by Dre Pro edition, replaces it very nicely. It's ironic because the beats pro are made for djs. Their qualities are the qualities that the studios should have, but don't. They are shown below.
A big and important question is, what is the best headphones for the different uses for them? Below a few pairs are listed.
KRK KNS 8400
KRK KNS 8400
Sony mdr-xb500
Sony V700
Krk's headphone line isn't a big or well known one, Although it is definitely a very popular one for true studio-working people. Beats by Dre and other top selling headphones may be shown in videos and pictures being used by famous musicians, although they aren't really what's being used in the studio. KrK makes headphones for professional studio use and they are expensive, although what sets them aside from these brand-name headphones is that they actually live up to their expectations.
In the few pictures showed above, are headphones that people should be buying. The KrKs sell for professional studio use, but what's good for average users? Above their are 2 Sony headphones shown. Both amazing, both within a 50-90 dollar price range, and may even sound better than beats.
A couple of students were interviewed at Roslyn high school about the headphones situation. The interview narrowed down to one very important question which was: If you were introduced to a new pair of headphones that have no style to them or popularity, although sound and feel significantly better than brand-name headphones, would you choose them over brand name headphones? A sophomore from Roslyn high school, Mark Schulman, answered saying: "I probably would choose the unknown headphones, even though beats by Dre are the only headphones that I've looked into buying before."
