Should Abortion Be Legal

23.7% or almost a fourth of American women have abortions in their lifetime. Abortion is a grave and controversial topic many overlook as a thing that should obviously be legal. But there are many opinions on if women should have the right to it. The supporters say it should be legal because it's their right, but the opponents say it harms the baby in the womb. There are pros and cons to both sides of the argument.

Firstly the people supporting abortion and are mad at the ban say, "Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences…. It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people's elected representatives. (Infobase)" This is a statement that means to say that the reasoning to ban abortion is weak and unreasonable, plus the decision to ban abortion has had very damaging consequences both to men and women but mostly women. Also, making abortion illegal will go against women's right to privacy, and that is against a contract America and many other countries have signed(Universal declaration of human rights). Going against it means America breaks the law. A second reason to make abortion legal is that abortions are not harmful if they are carried out by professionals, so it doesn't make sense to outlaw them when it doesn't harm the person having an abortion. Furthermore, a reason to make abortion a legal process is that it wouldn't make caring for an unwanted baby a living nightmare because you can do an abortion to not have the baby. The reason it would be a living nightmare is that they might not be financially stable or going through depression, or are too young. Also, 2020 was the year that most people got rejected to do an abortion(AmericanProgres), which I think is a terrible thing because the mother will not live a happy life because of the baby and, in the worse case, kill themself or the baby or even both.

Those opposing the right say, "A fetus is a human life, and abortion is murder¨ (InfoBase). This means that killing the fetus, seen in their eyes as a human, is murder. Those opposing abortions say that a fetus (the state of a baby after the embryo) is a human life, and doing an abortion would be the same thing as killing a baby, so it should not be legal. And they say, banning abortion “Protects babies in the womb who have beating hearts, who can move, who can taste, who can see, and who can feel pain(Florida governor Ron DeSantis).” And because abortions are murder, the government has the right to say that they are illegal. A thing leading to making abortions illegal is that many states have already made them illegal, so why not the whole country. They also say that fetuses feel pain, so killing them would also harm them in the process.

My opinion on this considerable debate is that those that support abortions have excellent points, and the points that they bring up are backed by science. In contrast, the opposing side only has biased opinions making those that support abortions more agreeable. And in my opinion, a fetus is not yet evolved enough to be considered a human.

Also, according to this graph on this site which

100 American adults answered, and 36 of them

said that abortions should be legal in most

cases, and 27 of them said illegal in most

points, while the rest was mixed. See the

Graph or look up this topic on Pew

Research Center.

In conclusion, abortion is one of the most debated topics. Many think that abortion

should be legal, but almost as many believe that it should be illegal. Based on my research, those who support abortion have more facts than opinions, making them more credible. Abortion is a woman´s right, so they should have the full right to choose to have one or not.
