Reflective Essay
A global poll by Gallup in June of 2013 says that 85% of people are unhappy with their jobs. And people on average spend ⅓ of their lives at work. So if I’m spending that much time doing something it only makes sense to be happy doing it. Most people don't like their jobs for one of these reasons. First, some people don't like the people they work with. Such as their co-workers and bosses. Second, they don’t like that type of work or are just bored of doing it. Third, there isn’t any room to advance or move up the ladder in the line of work. Such as getting promoted and growing in the company and making more money. I don’t want to be one of these people that dislike their job. That’s why my goal is to get a well-paying job that I enjoy doing. The three reasons I want to accomplish this goal are I want to enjoy my job, get educated and go to college, and get paid well.
First, the first reason I want to accomplish this goal is that I want to enjoy what I’m doing for work. If I’m spending ⅓ of my life doing something I don’t want to hate what I’m doing. That means that I have to work on something that I like to do. For example, I like debating, a lawyer does that so I might want to be a lawyer. But I also like to play sports so I could be a coach or phy ed teacher. Also if I start to not like my job I can try for a different position in that field of work. For example a judge or a public defender. I want to enjoy what I do for work, also I want to get educated.
Next, the next reason I want to accomplish this goal is I want to go to college to get educated. I want to get educated because I might need the education to get a job I enjoy and that pays well. For example, if I wanted to be a lawyer I would have to get a bachelor's degree in law. Another reason I want to go to college is that it is fun. A lot of people join a sport or a group and make many friends in college. The last reason I want to go to college is to have good job security. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only about 3% of people with at least a bachelor's degree are unemployed. Whereas for someone with only a high school diploma about 7% are unemployed. That's why I want to go to college, I also want to get paid well.
Last, the last reason I want to accomplish this goal is I want to get paid well. I want to get paid well because I like to have nice things. I want to get a nice car, a nice house, and a nice boat. Also if I ever have children they are also very expensive. If I do go to college it would be easier to get a well-paying job as well. A study done by the APLU says that people who have at least a bachelor's degree on average earn more than $32,000 than someone who only has a high school diploma. For example, the average salary for a lawyer is around $56,000- $160,000. Once I start working at a job I can be promoted and then make even more money. That’s why I want to get a job that pays well.
The three reasons I want to achieve this goal are I want to enjoy my job, get paid well, get educated, and go to college. My goal is to get a well-paying job that I enjoy doing. Most people spend a lot of time at their job so I want to enjoy that time while also making money. Most people are unhappy with their jobs. And on average people spend about ⅓ of their life working. “Choose a job that you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”- Confucius. My life goal is To live a good life, have fun, and be happy.
